Veterans request their discharge documents for a variety of reasons. However, your discharge document is only a small part of your military paperwork. Your OMPF - or Official Military Personnel File – chronicles your entire military career including training reports, performance evaluations, award narratives, and even health information.
In fact, you may be surprised by how much information your OMPF actually contains. Your discharge document such as a DD214 contains the basic facts of your service on one page. Your OMPF is the long story behind the facts and is typically dozens to hundreds of pages more.
An OMPF can include photographs, correspondence, and background into where, how, and when a person served, as well as your discharge document. Chances are, your OMPF contains a similar collection of interesting facts and finds you may have thought lost to the past. This can be helpful for Veterans and family members in understanding their military past.
At DD214Direct.com, we take the stress out of dealing with the government and streamline the process of ordering your OMPF.

An OMPF is a veteran's primary administrative file, It's substantial collection of information pertaining to his or her service, accomplishments, personal conduct and more. It also contains personal data not included in a DD214. Specifically, the OMPF is where veterans will find the following information:
Some OMPF will also contain health care information documenting a veteran's medical treatment while in the military. This includes regular physical exams, dental records, mental health treatment and outpatient procedures but does not include clinical treatment in the which individual was hospitalized. However, the practice of filing health records with personnel information ended in the 1990's.
Finally, OMPFs for members of the National Guard and the Reserves will also include their military points statements, which are used to calculate retirement pay. Points are accrued throuch active service and drill periods as well as through military coursework and training.
